Product Description

Landing your first MSL job can seem like a daunting task. Many candidates will search for months without having a single interview, leaving them to wonder if there are jobs out there for MSLs. The fact is that companies are hiring MSLs at a record pace, even MSLs with NO INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE. Yes, every company that hires MSLs will hire and train someone with no experience (there are specific jobs that will require experience).

Anyone who has actively searched for a MSL job has been told that “you must have 2 – 5 years of existing experience”. They will normally hear this from a company HR representative or an independent recruiter trying to fill a job order for a company. How do you get 2 years of experience if no one will hire you? Don’t despair; there are plenty of entry level jobs available. These jobs are not posted and not represented by recruiters, but they exist. How does someone get their first MSL job? By truly differentiating yourself in the job search. Start with your resume - is it an academic CV versus a professional resume clearly giving insight into the skills you possess that will provide the foundation for your MSL career? How are you searching for jobs? Depending on job boards and soft networking are passive ways to conduct a job search and unlikely to get you an interview. If you want your resume seen, submit it to a high level hiring manager in Medical Affairs. This not only ensures an “educated buyer”, who truly understands your background and the MSL role will see it, but also demonstrates to the hiring manager that you know how to get to Key Opinion Leaders.

Who gets MSL jobs? I have selected a few client profiles to give insight into who is landing interviews and jobs. (Please note that names and hiring company information are anonymized to respect confidentiality.)
